Howrah District is one of the smaller districts of the state of West Bengal. It is a triangular shaped district surrounded by two rivers - the Ganges and the Rupnarayana in the East and West respectivly. It lies between 22º 12' to 22º 48' North Latitude and 87º 50' to 88 º 23' East Longitudes covering an area of 1467 Sq Km. The present setup of Howrah Zilla Parishad, the district level tier of Three tiers Panchayti Raj System, is primarily associated with monitoring and execution of developmental plans aimed at upliftment of Society.
